Fighting the image of being a bland sedan, the 2011 Toyota Avalon has been redesigned to incorporate crisper character lines, a bolder grille and upscale touches such as projector-beam headlamps. The Avalon also sports more chrome trim, redesigned rocker panels and a new 17-in. wheel design.
Inside, the cabin features richer materials, standard perforated leather seating, an upgraded satellite navigation system, rear backup monitor with the screen integrated into the rearview mirror and a new rear power sunshade.
The new Avalon is powered by a 24-valve 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 268 bhp and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, which Toyota estimates should get 20 mpg city/ 29 mpg highway.
The Avalon will be offered in two trim levels, standard and Limited. Base models come with an 8-way power driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control with air filtration and a moonroof. The Limited trim adds cooling to both driver and passenger seats, passenger-side power seats, rain-sensing wipers, and Smart Key. Options include a 12-speaker JBL premium sound system, heated front seats and satellite navigation.
